got a line running JIC fittings on one end and JIS on the other, will this adapter connect the two without needing extra pieces in between?

That's what it's built for. One end is a 3/4-16 male JIC with a 37 degree flare, the other is a 1/2-14 female JIS with a 30 degree flare seat running BSPP thread. So you're making that crossover connection in a single straight fitting, no additional adapters needed between those two thread types.
