got a line coming off a 3/4 NPT port that needs to make a sharp turn before connecting to a 7/16-20 JIC fitting, this the right piece for that?

That's what this adapter is built for. One end threads into a 3/4-14 NPT port, and the other connects to a 7/16-20 Male JIC 37-degree flare fitting. The 90-degree elbow handles that directional change right at the connection point, so you're not forcing a bend into the line itself. The tube OD on the JIC side is 0.25 inches, so just make sure your mating fitting matches up before you wrench it down.

trying to swap a straight fitting for an elbow, what are the thread sizes on each end of this one

On the pipe-thread side it is 3/4-14 male NPT, and on the flare side it is 7/16-20 male JIC with a 37 degree flare. It is a 90 degree elbow.
