Does this fitting need a mandrel to put it on, or can you just thread it straight onto the hose without any special tooling?

No mandrel required on this one. It's a reusable fitting, so you work it onto the -06 hose without that extra step. The bump tube design handles the seal engagement when you make up the connection, which keeps the installation pretty straightforward compared to crimp-style fittings that need shop press equipment.
