trying to swap out a fitting on a -10 hose, is this the straight female JIC swivel with 7/8-14 threads?

This fitting uses a SAE 37 end type, so it'll fit right up with any standard JIC 37-degree flare fitting.

does this fitting work with a mandrel install or can you just hand-tighten it onto the hose?

A mandrel is required for proper installation on this one. It's a three-piece reusable design, so the socket and nipple have to be assembled correctly around the hose with the mandrel involved. Hand-tightening alone won't get you a reliable connection. That's standard for reusable fittings in this style, and it's worth making sure you've got the right mandrel on hand before you start the job.
