do you have to use a mandrel to put one of these together on the hose

Putting together these reduced bore steel fittings requires a mandrel. You will need one to properly install the three-piece assembly onto your 1 wire braid hose.

Trying to match up parts here, is this the straight reusable fitting with a 1-5/16-12 female JIC 37 degree swivel for a -16 hose?

You are looking at a straight, three-piece reusable steel fitting built for -16 hose with a 1-5/16-12 female JIC 37 degree flare swivel on the end.
Question by: Johnny C on Aug 4, 2025, 8:15 PM
fitting says it needs a mandrel, is that something I gotta have on hand before I put this thing together, or is it a one-time setup deal?
Answer by: Customer Support on Aug 6, 2025, 6:22 AM
You'll need the mandrel during assembly. Reusable fittings like this one require it to properly seat the hose end before the fitting can be secured. It's not a one-time shop setup either, anytime you're assembling one of these, the mandrel has to be part of the process. Make sure you have the right mandrel for a -16 hose size before you start, otherwise you're not going to get a reliable connection.
