The SUS Series Suction Strainer 2 NPT Port 120.0 Mesh Up To 59.80 GPM is engineered to protect hydraulic pumps from larger solid contaminants when submerged in reservoirs. The strainer is typically mounted horizontally with the top of the strainer positioned at least 3 inches below the lowest oil level to prevent cavitation.

Featuring a glass fiber reinforced polyamide head this STAUFF CORPORATION suction strainer ensures durability and reliability in industrial applications. Its 120 mesh (125UM) pleated stainless steel wire screen is epoxy-bonded to the head making it cleanable and efficient in filtration.

The strainer has a rated flow of 59.8 GPM and a total screen area of 504 square inches optimizing filtration capacity. The 2 NPT port size along with a length of 10.24 inches and a diameter of 4.02 inches makes it adaptable for various industrial systems. got a tank setup where the suction line comes in from the side. does this strainer need to be mounted a certain way?

For a typical install, it is mounted horizontally and you want the top of the strainer sitting at least 3 inches below the lowest oil level to help prevent cavitation. It is meant to run submerged in the reservoir, and it also helps to plan an access opening so you can pull it out for cleaning.

strainer's gotta go in horizontal, right? what's the minimum depth it needs to be below the oil level so I ain't running into cavitation problems?

Horizontal mounting is correct. The top of the strainer needs to sit at least 3 inches below the lowest oil level in the reservoir. That clearance keeps air from getting pulled into the pump and causing cavitation. On larger port sizes the general rule shifts to 1.5 pipe diameters instead of the fixed 3 inches, but for this 2 NPT unit, 3 inches is your number. Make sure you've also got an access opening in the reservoir so you can pull the strainer out for cleaning without a major teardown.

Reckon this'd keep the big chunks outta my pump if I sit it right in the hydraulic reservoir?

That's exactly what it's for. Submerge it at least 3 inches below the oil level, and it'll keep those solids from messing up your pump.
