SV3-16-O Series 2-Way, 2-Position, Normally Open Solenoid Cartridge Valve, Housing: None, Coil: Not Included

Description & Features

The Danfoss SV3-16-O Series 2-Way, 2-Position, Normally Open Solenoid Cartridge Valve offers reliable performance for demanding applications such as harvesters, refuse haulers, mobile, and industrial systems. The valve operates by allowing bi-directional flow between port 1 and port 2 in the de-energized position and blocking flow from port 2 to port 1 while allowing flow from port 1 to port 2 when spring force is overcome in the energized position.

This model is designed to handle pressures up to 3000 PSI and flow rates up to 227 L/min (60 USgpm), ensuring robust functionality. It features hardened and ground steel construction for durability and a minimal internal leakage rate of less than 5 drops per minute at maximum pressure.

Recommended filtration levels meet ISO 4406 standards, and the operating temperature range extends from -40deg;F to 248deg;F. The valve is designed for screw-in cartridge installation, with a Buna-N seal material enhancing its reliability. The housing is not included, and the valve is intended for use with J series, 23 W coils, which are sold separately.

Question by: Brett R on Jan 1, 2026, 10:27 AM
got a 24v setup already. does this valve come with the coil or am i buyin that separate
Answer by: Customer Support on Jan 2, 2026, 3:58 PM
Coil and housing are not included with this cartridge. It is the SV3-16-O-0-00 screw-in cartridge only, and it uses a J series coil (23 W) that is sold separately.
Question by: Peggy G on Dec 22, 2025, 6:51 AM
valve says normally open, just want to make sure I understand that right. so if the coil loses power it stays open and flow keeps moving?
Answer by: Customer Support on Dec 24, 2025, 7:24 AM
Correct. In the de-energized state, flow passes freely in both directions between port 1 and port 2. Once you energize the coil, flow from port 2 to port 1 gets blocked. Flow from port 1 to port 2 is still allowed after spring force is overcome. So yes, losing power means the valve stays open, which is something worth accounting for in your circuit design if a fail-safe closed condition is what you need.
Question by: Ricky H on Nov 11, 2025, 2:28 PM
got a normally open setup now. when this one’s de-energized, do i still get flow both ways between port 1 and 2?
Answer by: Customer Support on Nov 12, 2025, 8:52 PM
In the de-energized state it is open in both directions, so flow can go port 1 to port 2 or port 2 to port 1. When you energize it, it blocks flow from port 2 to port 1, and it will allow flow from port 1 to port 2 once the spring force is overcome.
Question by: Clint B on Dec 18, 2025, 7:14 AM
valve says "normally open", does that mean flow is already passing through it before any power gets to it?
Answer by: Customer Support on Dec 19, 2025, 4:18 PM
Correct. In the de-energized state, flow moves freely in both directions between port 1 and port 2. Once the solenoid gets power and overcomes the spring, flow from port 2 to port 1 gets blocked, while port 1 to port 2 remains open. So if you lose power or a wire comes loose, the valve defaults back to flowing. That behavior is worth keeping in mind when you're planning how it fits into your circuit.
Question by: Sherry H on Jun 7, 2025, 8:21 PM
Will this cartridge work in place of a SV3-16 size I pulled from a piece of equipment I'm working on?
Answer by: Customer Support on Jun 9, 2025, 2:23 PM
This SV3-16-O series valve should be a suitable replacement, assuming your existing setup uses a 2-way, 2-position, normally open configuration. Just make sure your flow and pressure requirements are within its 60 US GPM and 3000 PSI limits.
