Got a couple Permco 257 pumps I'm rebuilding and been using whatever's handy to set the bushings. What's this kit actually do different than just pressing them in by hand or with a drift?

Seating bushings without the right tooling is one of those things that looks fine until it isn't. When you improvise with a drift or press them freehand, you risk cocking the bushing slightly off-axis or deforming the bore just enough to throw off your internal clearances.
