fitting's got a 90 degree elbow on it, will that work alright on a -04 hose without needing any thread tape or sealant put on it?

No sealant or thread tape needed on this one. The M16 x .5 female swivel uses a 24-degree DIN flare seat to make the seal, and the included 05.017-6.5x1.5 seal part handles leak prevention at the connection. Just get your torque in the 33 to 40 lb/ft range and you're good. It's also a crimp-style fitting, so no mandrel is required during installation either.
