got a -04 hose and need a straight male pipe end, is this the right fitting?

For a straight crimp-on connection to a -04 hose, this fitting matches that hose size and uses a 3/8-18 male NPTF pipe thread on the other end.

fitting says it works with -04 hose but got a couple different hoses on the shelf, does it matter which one I grab?

For this fitting, H277 and H435 are the recommended hose types, and that matters more than just matching the -04 size. If you're running it in a situation where shock hazards are present, those two hose designations are specifically called out for that condition. Grabbing the wrong hose off the shelf could mean a mismatch in pressure handling for your application, so stick with H277 or H435 to keep things running right.
