Designed for use in confined spaces with minimum entry gaps of 0.5 in (12.8 mm), the 1.00 Ton, Hydraulic Wedgie and Spread Cylinder, 3.7 in Maximum Spread from Enerpac delivers controlled spreading force in tight access conditions. Part of the WR Series, this single-acting hydraulic spreader extends to a maximum spread of 3.7 in (94 mm) and returns automatically via spring mechanism, simplifying use in restricted work areas.
Rated at 1 ton (8.9 kN) capacity with a maximum operating pressure of 10,000 psi (700 bar), the unit weighs 5 lbs (2.3 kg), keeping it manageable for positioning and use by hand. Note that maximum load capacity applies only at half the rated system pressure, 5,000 psi (350 bar). The compact form factor makes it well-suited for industrial maintenance, rescue, and mechanical separation tasks where clearance is limited.
what's the minimum gap this thing needs to fit into before it can start spreading?

Half an inch is the minimum clearance you need to get the WR5 seated and working. That's 12.8mm if you're working in metric. Pretty tight access is where this tool earns its keep, so as long as you've got at least that much of a gap to start with, you're in business.

got a tight little gap to start in, what’s the minimum opening this WR5 needs before it’ll bite?
Answer by: Customer Support on Jun 2, 2026, 6:43 AM
For cramped spots, the WR5 is meant to get started with as little as a 0.5 inch (12.8 mm) clearance gap, then it can spread out to a 3.7 inch (94 mm) maximum.
